My preference for a classic cocktail usually involves bourbon. But I enjoy a frozen drink – especially at a girl’s night, pool party or any hot summer days. My best frozen strawberry daiquiri recipe is perfect those special occasions. You won’t find any store-bought daiquiri mix or lemon-lime soda here. Just real ingredients combined for a frozen daiquiri bursting with fresh strawberry flavor!

Ingredients for homemade strawberry daiquiri

  • Strawberries – I use whole strawberries frozen at peak ripeness instead of fresh strawberries for my classic daiquiri recipe. Frozen sweet strawberries means using less ice which equals a less watered down drink.
  • Rum – White rum is the typical choice for a strawberry daiquiri. But you could replace it with dark rum or spiced rum if you prefer.
  • Strawberry Jam – Adds an extra punch of intense strawberry flavor to the drink.
  • Powdered Sugar – The powdered sugar dissolves easily into the drink, instead of using a simple syrup.
  • Lime Juice – Fresh lime juice helps to balance the sweet strawberry flavors in this fruity drink.
  • Cardamom – My “secret ingredient” in this recipe. Cardamom really compliments and adds an extra “something” to this classic rum daiquiri.
  • Ice and Water – The ice cubes makes this drink more frosty. The water helps to blend everything together. You are welcome to use more rum instead of water!

FAQ’s

How to make a virgin strawberry daiquiri?

All you have to do is skip the rum to make this drink “virgin”. Replace the rum with an equal amount of water, sparkling water or club soda. The liquid is there to help blend the frozen strawberries into a super refreshing summertime beverage. Virgin Strawberry Daiquiris are a great drink for kids, those who choose not to drink alcohol, or sipping at the public pool where alcohol is not allowed.

What is the difference between a Strawberry Daiquiri and a Strawberry Margarita?

Not much. A strawberry daiquiri is traditionally made with white (or light) rum and a strawberry margarita is made with tequila (and oftentimes triple sec). Sometimes people will replace the rum in a daiquiri with vodka which is perfectly acceptable.

What’s the most popular daiquiri?

The Strawberry Daiquiri is near the top in popularity, although I read recently in this article that the favorite daiquiri of Ernest Hemingway may now be number one. As an aside, I traveled to Key West and toured Hemingway’s home a few years ago. I highly recommend it if you are ever in the area. Hemingway was a prolific drinker and very colorful character. So the tour of his home is incredibly entertaining.

As for the Hemingway daiquiri, it is made with white rum, lime juice, Maraschino liqueur and ruby red grapefruit juice. It’s quite good, but I still prefer my strawberry version. Also Hemingway is said to have preferred his daiquiris without the sugar and double the alcohol. Yikes!

Kitchen tools

  • Use a high-powered blender for blending your strawberry daiquiris
  • Insulated cocktail cups to keep the daiquiris frozen longer if sipping outside
