I have a recipe for Air Fryer French Toast that is reminiscent of bread pudding. One of my favorite local restaurants that has since closed made the best traditional bread pudding I’ve ever tried. They served it drenched in a rum butter sauce. I still dream about it but can’t go there anymore. So I had to try and make a copycat recipe here at home using my recipe for individual french toasts baked in the air fryer as a jumping off point. You probably already have all these basic ingredients to make this decadent dessert in your pantry and fridge. So let’s get started!
Ingredients for air fryer bread pudding recipe
- Bread Slices – Use the best bread you can find. A sliced brioche bread would be perfect.
- Egg Whites – Helps to bind the custardy batter that bakes into a rich bread pudding.
- Half and Half – I had half and half in my fridge but you could use heavy cream if that’s what you have on-hand.
- Butter – Fat adds flavor and so the butter adds more rich flavor to both the custard and the bourbon sauce.
- Sugar – We’re making a sweet dessert so sugar is a must. I tested the recipe with granulated sugar but you could use light brown sugar instead.
- Chocolate Chips – You could leave them out but I love chocolate in my bread pudding.
- Vanilla – You can use imitation or pure vanilla extract.
- Corn Syrup – To help make the buttery bourbon sauce that is poured over the puddings. You could sub pure maple syrup instead.
- Bourbon – Really takes this dessert over the top.
- Variation – You could top these bread puddings with a scoop of ice cream too!
Instructions
Cut the bread slices into cubes. Grease the ramekin baking dishes with non-stick cooking spray or melted butter and set aside. Melt butter in the microwave. Whisk together the egg whites, half and half, sugar and vanilla. Whisk in the melted butter until smooth. In a large bowl, pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and stir until well combined. Transfer the bread mixture to the prepared ramekin dishes, layered with chocolate chips. Air fry the dishes of bread pudding at 325 degrees F for 12 – 14 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Serve the bread pudding drenched with the bourbon butter sauce. For full recipe and instructions, keep scrolling to the bottom of the post for my free, printable recipe card.

- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp corn syrup
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp bourbon
- 1/8 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a glass, microwavable measuring cup, combine the corn syrup, two tablespoons of butter, one tablespoon of sugar, bourbon and pinch of salt. - Melt the remaining butter in the microwave.
- In a clean bowl, whisk together the half and half, egg whites, sugar and vanilla. Slowly pour the melted butter into the mixture and whisk until smooth.
- In a separate clean bowl, pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and stir until the bread is completely coated.
- Place half (divided equally) of the coated bread into the prepared ramekins. Sprinkle with half of the chocolate chips. Divide the remaining half of the coated bread between the two dishes. And top each dish equally with the remaining chocolate chips.
- Place the dishes into the basket of your air fryer.
- Air fry the bread pudding at 325 degrees F for 12 - 14 minutes, until it is puffed and golden brown.
- Serve the bread pudding topped with the bourbon butter sauce.
