What is it about dips that make them perfect party food? I think the best kind of dips are served in a Crock-Pot. That way they stay warm and ready for several hours. Instead of a baking dish out of the oven, which gets cold quickly. People can serve themselves a little or a lot. And the dippers are customizable. Guests who prefer a low-carb (or less calories) option can go for the fresh veggies to dunk in their dip.
My recipes for layered slow cooked dips have become hugely popular! This taco dip video has over 4 million views so far! Here’s the written recipe for my Crockpot Taco Dip. And my slow cooker pizza dip has been a fan favorite for about 8 years now. So the obvious next choice for me to make in this series is Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Dip. Chicken wings and football seem to go together like peas and carrots. The fourth dip in the series is my Skyline Chili Dip, a Cincinnati favorite. The fifth is my Slow Cooker Jalapeño Popper Dip. The sixth is my Slow Cooker Mexican Street Corn Dip. Stick around because I have more dips planned, including a dessert dip for the slow cooker.

Ingredients for crock pot buffalo chicken dip
- Cooked Chicken – Here’s my recipe for cooking frozen chicken breasts in your Crock Pot. Or you can also use shredded chicken from a purchased rotisserie chicken. You could also use canned chicken, though it would not be my first choice.
- Cream Cheese – I’ve discovered that whipped cream cheese is a great choice for dips like these. Right out of the container its softened and ready to stir.
- Buffalo Wing Sauce – Frank’s Red Hot Sauce is my favorite brand, but feel free to choose your own favorite brand of hot sauce.
- Melted Butter – Fat adds flavor and it’s common for wings to be sauced in a mix of hot sauce and butter.
- Ranch Dressing – I use one envelope of Hidden Valley Ranch Dips Mix.
- Cheddar Cheese – I prefer to shred my own cheese for this recipe. I think it melts and tastes better than pre shredded cheddar cheese.
- Green Onions – Sliced green onions add bright fresh flavor to enhance the spicy buffalo chicken. Plus they add a pretty garnish for serving. We eat with our eyes too!
- Blue Cheese Dressing – Optional but a drizzle at the end before serving adds yet another layer of flavor.
Instructions
In a medium bowl, combine the whipped cream cheese, Ranch seasoning, one cup of the shredded cheddar cheese and half the sliced green onions. Stir well until smooth. Spread the mixture evenly into the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker insert.
In a separate clean bowl, stir together the cooked chicken with Buffalo sauce and melted butter until well combined. Spread evenly over top of the cream cheese mixture.
Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top of the buffalo chicken layer. Cover and cook on high power for one hour or low power for two hours. Drizzle some blue cheese dressing on top of the dip. Then garnish with the remaining green onions. Serve with celery and crackers. Or whatever else sounds good to you!

Serving suggestions
This dip pairs perfectly with celery sticks, bell peppers and baby carrots. Or crackers and tortilla chips. You could even serve it over baked potatoes or pasta! Here’s some more recipes to turn it into a terrific tailgating spread –
Storage Directions
Store the leftover dip in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip because the cheese will likely separate and the texture won’t be as good.
Can you reheat buffalo chicken dip in the crockpot?
Yes. Place it back in the slow cooker and heat on high until it is melted again, stirring occasionally. Or place the dip in a microwave safe dish and re-heat it in the microwave in one minute intervals, stirring after each minute, until it is heated through.
Kitchen Tools
- I test all of my recipes in a 6-quart slow cooker similar to this one.
- Use a glass measuring cup similar to these to measure your hot sauce.
- Here’s my favorite heat-proof spatulas for stirring.
- And my favorite air-tight containers for storing leftovers in the refrigerator.

I’ve read& re-read recipe and there’s mayo in the ingredients list but no instructions on when to incorporate it? I’m going to assume it goes in with the ranch mix & do it then if don’t hear back before I make it. Thankyou
foodtasticmom says
My sincerest apologies! That was a typing error on my part. I have corrected it. You add the mayonnaise at the beginning, with the chicken, cream cheese, sour cream, etc. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I appreciate it!
