Plain toasted pecans are a healthy snack. Or you can use them in baked goods like cookies and pies. Or as a topping for ice cream and salads. Too often I have burned nuts in a skillet trying to toast them on my stove top. And turning on my oven to roast a small amount of pecans seems like a waste of energy. The air fryer really is the perfect way to roast pecans. Keep reading to find out how to make plain air fryer pecans, maple cinnamon pecans and salt and pepper pecans.

Are pecans good for you?

Yes, they definitely are! Pecans are certified by the American Heart Association as a heart healthy food. Studies have shown that pecan oil is very beneficial to reducing the risk of heart disease. Pecans are packed with protein, plus more than 19 vitamins and minerals. And just one-ounce of pecans provides 10% of your recommended daily dose of fiber.

Ingredients and instructions

Add two cups of raw pecans to the basket of your air fryer. Air fry the pecans at 300 degrees F for 6 minutes. Open the basket and give the pecans a stir. Continue to air fry the pecans at 300 degrees for an additional 2 – 4 minutes, or until they are toasted to your liking. If you like them extra toasty, keep air frying!

Instructions for maple cinnamon pecans

Combine 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 tablespoon of pure maple syrup, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt into a microwave-safe glass bowl or measuring cup. Microwave for about one minute, or until the butter is completely melted. Mix until well combined.

Pour the butter and maple mixture over 2 cups of raw pecans and stir until evenly coated. Line the basket of your air fryer with a piece of parchment paper and spread the coated pecans in a single layer onto the paper.

Follow the directions for making air fryer pecans as written above – 300 degrees F for 8 – 10 minutes.

Instructions for salt and pepper pecans

Combine 1 tablespoon of oil (pecan, avocado or canola are good choices) with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.

Pour the oil mixture over 2 cups of raw pecans and stir until evenly coated. Spread the pecans evenly into the air fryer basket.

Follow the directions as written above – 300 degrees F for 8 – 10 minutes.

Storage directions

Be sure to cool the pecans completely before storing to prevent moisture build up, which will cause them to go rancid. Store the roasted pecans in an airtight container. They will keep at room temperature for one week. In the fridge they will stay fresh for up to six months. And in the freezer they can stay fresh for up to one year.

Kitchen tools

  • I use a Philips XXL Air Fryer to test all of my recipes
  • Use kitchen shears to cut parchment paper to fit the inside of your air fryer basket
  • Or purchase pre-cut parchment paper squares meant for the air fryer
  • Store air fryer pecans in an air tight container at room temperature for up to one week or in the refrigerator for up to two months

The maple and cinnamon is the perfect fall flavor for the holiday season. I’ll mix in more nuts since I can airfry a bunch!

Store them in an air-tight container. They’ll last up to one week in the refrigerator and up to one month in the freezer. I wouldn’t keep them past a couple of days at room temperature.

My first attempt burned in my Cuisinart air fryer at 300° for 6 minutes. I should have kept a closer eye on them. I did a second batch for 4 minutes and they came out great. Thanks for the recipe!
