As far as condiments go, fresh salsa is probably one of my favorites. And if the salsa includes fruit, making it both sweet and savory, then I know I’m going to love it. A bowl of fresh pineapple salsa takes just a few minutes to toss together. It makes an excellent dipper for tortilla chips. As well as a sophisticated topper for your favorite tacos and grilled chicken or pork.

What is pineapple salsa?

I’ve seen several variations of pineapple salsa. Some salsas include tomatoes but I like the combination of fresh pineapple with avocado. Pineapple has such an acidic bite that the fresh, buttery avocado works as a terrific flavor compliment to it.

How to make pineapple salsa:

The great thing about this salsa is it is ready when you are. I chopped all the ingredients in my pineapple salsa right before I ate it. The flavors are immediate and don’t need time to develop by sitting in the bowl for a certain amount of time. If you are unsure of how to prepare fresh pineapple or avocado, you can find tutorials here and here.

What to serve with pineapple salsa:

I specifically created this recipe to top my short rib tacos. But this salsa would go well with chicken, pork and even fish. Or just dip your favorite tortilla chips into it. But be careful because it probably won’t last long!

Kitchen Tips:

  • Here’s an article to help you buy a good pineapple.
  • If you don’t like the taste of cilantro, simply leave it out.
  • The heat lives in the seeds of a pepper – for a spicier salsa, leave the seeds intact when chopping the jalapeño pepper.
  • This is the knife I use for chopping all of my fresh ingredients.
