DIY Boo Kit by Foodtastic Mom

I’ve always enjoyed Halloween. It’s during my favorite season and there’s so much fun I can have with food in regards to spooky eats and treats. Plus this year Halloween falls on a Saturday for extra, BOOTASTIC fun. After trick-or-treating we’re going to be partying on our neighbors’ new porch like ghouls. I can’t wait!

But before the actual day, there’s so much fun to be had. Have you ever BOO’d someone? I haven’t yet but there’s a first time for everything, right? We’re going to be delivering this kit to some school friends and my kids are SO excited to see their friends’ reactions when they find this BOO bag filled with ghostly goodies.

It seemed obvious to me to go with a ghost theme, so I started with purchasing a copy of the classic movie “Ghostbusters”. And what better to pair with this movie than some homemade slime because you know, “HE SLIMED ME!” If you don’t remember Bill Murray’s classic line from the movie you’ve gotta rewatch it this season.

With an 8 and 10 year old in the house, we’ve surprisingly never made our own slime before but it was so simple! Glitter glue, a little Borax and some water are all it takes. I just love the sparkly, bright colors the glitter glue provides (we made pink slime for the girl and blue slime for the boy). Our BOO kit recipients are going to love it.

And what’s a movie without soda and snacks? That’s where my local Walmart helped me out. I bought a bag of Mars Chocolate Mix with M&M’s®, SNICKERS® and TWIX®, plus two 6-packs of the fun new monster sodas from A&W Rootbeer and 7UP®.

DIY Slime

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Borax
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 bottle Elmer's Classic Glitter Glue
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Dissolve the teaspoon of Borax into the 1 cup of warm water. Into a separate bowl, pour the entire bottle of glitter glue and add the additional 1 tablespoon of water. Stir to combine so the glue is a little "looser" in consistency. Add the Borax and water mixture and use your hands to kneed together the glue and Borax/water mixture. There will be water left in the bowl and that is OK!
  • Remove the slime and package in a plastic bag to "gift" or store in an air-tight container until ready to play.
